Zooming Out: Embracing the Bigger Picture

Kyle Morsink

No hero’s journey is without struggle. Great stories are full of highs and lows, challenges, setbacks, and comebacks. Recognizing that any challenge you face is just one chapter in your bigger story is essential to achieving true success.

It’s easy to feel trapped when setbacks start piling up—your playing time is cut, your grades slip, or you have a fallout with a friend. It feels like everything is spiraling, and you can’t catch a break. This is when you most need to step back and zoom out. Recognize that you've faced difficulties before, and each time, you've found a way through. You’re here because of how you’ve navigated those challenges, emerging stronger and wiser every time.

So, what’s the move when you’re up against yet another uphill stretch? Take a step back and make small course corrections. Maybe it’s about refining your routine, or maybe this phase requires you to dig in and endure—some obstacles just take time to pass.

It’s hard to see it in the moment, but the very challenges you’re facing might be exactly what you need to become who you want to be. Athletes who’ve reached the top often say that they wouldn’t trade their toughest moments, because those were the times that built resilience and grit. Embrace these chapters—they’re the heart of your hero’s journey.
